Experience the Unique Natural Terrain of Fukushima

How would you like to join a seasoned guide from the Adatara Azuma Nature Center on a walk through the incredible natural scenery Fukushima has to offer? This trip along the Adatara Sulfur Mine Trail takes visitors through lush forests and the rugged landscape around Numano-taira, a crater created during a volcanic eruption in 1900.

Many visitors comment that visiting the crater is like being on another planet, a feeling that you can experience for yourself in this stunning part of Fukushima.

The area was once a sulfur mine as well as the source of a hot spring resort. Now, it is the source of Nakanosawa-Numajiri Onsen, and hikers can even experience the bliss of the onsen waters in a natural footbath located near the source of the hot springs.

The feeling of the rejuvenating waters, the sights and sounds of nature, and the faint smell of sulfur combine for an experience that delights all five senses.

A Customizable Walking Tour

This hiking tour is available from early May to mid-late November (availability may vary depending on snowfall conditions) and can take anywhere from 3 to 7 hours depending on your hiking experience and pace. Less experienced hikers need not to worry as the course and distance can be tailored to meet any individual requirements . The tour can accommodate 1 to 8 people per group. The price will vary depending on the course and the number of people taking part, so we recommend inquiring in advance.

Access to the Adatara Azuma Nature Center

To reach the Nature Center from Tokyo, take the Tohoku or Yamagata Shinkansen to Koriyama Station then change to the JR Tohoku Line local train to Nihonmatsu Station. The Nature Center is accessible by bus from Nihonmatsu Station.
