Immerse Yourself in a Mindful Zen Experience

ZEN & BED Bogetsu-An offers a lodging experience designed to bring you closer to the spirit of Zen. Housed in a beautifully preserved old Japanese structure, the inn’s architecture embraces simplicity and natural materials that echo centuries-old traditions. Here, you can participate in zazen (guided meditation sessions) that help clear the mind, enjoy tea ceremonies that offer a moment to pause, and savor a taste of shojin ryori — a vegetarian Buddhist cuisine prepared with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. The environment is carefully arranged to encourage reflection, allowing you to step away from everyday stress. Every activity is crafted to support a meaningful, introspective experience in a setting where tradition and modern hospitality coexist, suitable for those who are new to Zen or looking to deepen their practice.

Traditional Hospitality Guided by Monk Kaneko

Traditional Hospitality Guided by Monk Kaneko

At the heart of the experience is Monk Kaneko, whose own journey began in Yamanashi Prefecture. Born in 1978, he once participated in a student exchange in the United States before returning to Japan to pursue the monk’s path. After several years as an English tutor and extensive training at a temple dojo in Saitama, he now dedicates himself to sharing Zen principles with guests. Under his guidance, you can engage in meditation sessions and listen to his thoughtful insights on Zen practice.

The lodging features three distinct guest rooms — each designed in traditional style with tatami flooring and shoji screens that invite natural light, creating a calm atmosphere for rest. A small tea ceremony welcomes you on arrival, setting the stage for a communal dining experience where guests share shojin ryori. Mornings are marked by chanting prayers and zazen sessions that help you start the day with clarity and balance.
