Skiing in Japan would not be complete without great snow, views of Mount Fuji, and sushi, and Kusatsu Onsen Ski Resort delivers just that! This resort is located west of Tokyo in the picturesque mountains of Gunma Prefecture at an elevation of 1,250 meters. Climb this high, and you’re sure to find fantastic panoramic views, plenty of outdoor activities, and lots of snow.

In the winter months, the resort boasts world-class powder snow that covers six trails, the longest of which is 4.3 kilometers long, impressive for any ski resort. After a quick ride to the top of the slopes via gondola and lift, visitors will step out into the winter wonderland to stunning views of Mount Fuji in the distance, poking its snowy peak through the clouds. Head to the mountain early for freshly groomed trails and some of the best powder snow! With great food offerings, including sushi, and convenient rental options, there is no doubt that skiers and snowboarders will delight in spending time at this resort. Visitors can even take part in thrilling activities, including the BanZip TENGU zip line and the SKY SWING, which, as the name suggests, offers incredible views of the surrounding mountains and the exhilarating feeling of the wind in your face. After a long day enjoying the slopes, weary visitors can head to the famous Kusatsu Onsen town, just a five-minute drive away, to soak in the rejuvenating spring waters and prepare for their next snowy adventure.

Kusatsu Onsen Ski Resort does not limit its selection of activities to the winter, however. Those visiting during the warmer months are welcome to enjoy the Pulse Gondola Tengu, which whisks you up to the Tengu Mountain Terrace, complete with even more mountain views and the aforementioned swing and sushi restaurant. What better place to have a picnic, or simply enjoy the summer sun? What’s more, at the Tenguyama Play Zone at the base of the mountain, visitors can enjoy delicious BBQ and a variety of family-friendly activities ranging from tennis and badminton to hiking and mini golf. To round out any daytime adventure, join the Kusatsu “Three Great Baths” hot spring tour for a truly relaxing experience. This summer retreat is a refreshing 10°C cooler than urban areas and also has pet-friendly areas, as well as plenty of activities for kids of all ages, making Kusatsu Onsen Ski Resort a great family-friendly destination to enjoy the outdoors.
