Being 2，000 metres above sea level， this marsh is the nation’s highest wetland and is known for its abundant alpine plants. In the wetland where spring comes late， July is the best time to view the alpine plants blossoming one after another. The grass starts to turn yellow in late August and the leaves paint the entire wetland flaming red in mid-September. Plants and trees are lightly dusted with snow in November and you can see the arrival of migratory birds. Enjoy the diverse nature of each and every one of the seasons!

This Onsen rests alongside a verdant gorge carved out of rocks， where the roar of the Kinugawa River cuts through the stillness. Enjoy a splendid view of the gorge， beautiful mountains and great nature! Most of the inns located around the lake and along the valley have open-air baths (roten buro) and there are many scenic sites around the area. The Onsen welcomes many tourists during the seasons of fresh green foliage in mid-May， autumn colours in mid-October and “New Soba Festival” in November.

"Nikkozan Yumoto Onsenji Temple" is a branch temple of the world heritage site "Nikkozan Rinnoji Temple". Its history dates back to 788 when Shodo Shonin, the founder of mountain worship in Nikko, discovered a hot spring and enshrined Yakushirurikou-nyorai (the Buddha of healing) to alleviate suffering. Since the Meiji era, it has been known as a hot spring resort for common people seeking recovery and longevity.   While traditional sutra copying or Buddha tracing involves transcribing the entire sutra or drawing the entire image, Onsenji Temple offers original templates designed to be completed in approximately 15-20 minutes. For the Onsenji 16-character sutra copying, you will trace a section of the Yakushi Sutra written in light ink using a brush pen. For Buddhist image copying, you will trace the outline of a Buddha drawn in light ink using a brush pen.   Both practices allow individuals to connect with the Buddha, receiving their blessings and promoting mental and physical relaxation. The time spent engaging in sutra copying and Buddha tracing, fostering a deeper connection with the Buddha and oneself, is truly invaluable. As a token of your experience, participants who complete sutra copying or Buddha tracing and offer their work will receive a special temple stamp. Note: Brush pens are available for rental.   【About the Hot Spring】 Color of the hot spring water: Milky white Note: The source water is colorless, it turns milky white due to oxidation. * Be cautious as the colorless spring water is very hot. Quality of spring water: Sulfate and hydrogen carbonate hot spring. Therapeutic effects: Cuts, cold extremities, fatigue recovery, and more. Caution: Shampoo and body soap are not provided. Please bring your own if necessary.

A peaceful Onsen town on the northern shore of Lake Yunoko, situated in the heart of Nikko National Park. It is said that the Buddhist monk Shodo Shonin, who first built a temple in Nikko about 1200 years ago to introduce Buddhism to the area discovered the Onsen. The milky-white sulphur-infused water is said to help with neuralgia and rheumatism. You can try it out in the foot bath known as “Anyo-no-yu” available free of charge in the town.(Closed for winter)   Taking in the tranquil landscape of the lake and mountains beyond clouds of steam, the Onsen provides a relaxing soak in the midst of some great nature.

Founded by Ministry of Environment of Japan in1994, the Nikko Yumoto Visitor Center provides information on hiking trails and seasonal highlights, so visitors can enjoy the natural environment to the fullest.   Visitors to the center can also learn about local seasonal attractions, such as the autumn leaves that bloom in the Oku Nikko area, or the flowers that bloom in season. There is also an exhibition on the ecology of Oku Nikko, where you can learn more about the natural environment of Oku Nikko through a diorama of the terrain, videos, and seasonal events. In addition to learning more about the best time to explore each area, you can also take a break here too.   Visitor Center also offers guided bird-watching tours, animal exploration tours, hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing tours, and occasionally hosts exhibitions on topics such as reducing the damage caused by deer farming, the history of Oku Nikko, and the culture of the local hot springs. Visitor Center's official website also recommends hiking routes, including the Nikko Shirane Mountain Route, the Yunokko Lake Route, and the Battlefield Plain Wetland Route.
