Tracing the spiritual site founded by Kobo Daishi — listen to the murmurs of flowing water in the quiet forest Jakko Falls is located in Nikko City’s Chugawa area. With a height of about 50 meters and a width of 6 meters, it cascades down in seven tiers. The surrounding forest is lush, and the mountain trail offers a deeply serene atmosphere, earning its reputation as a hidden scenic spot known only to locals. The site was once home to the ancient Jakko-ji Temple, said to have been founded by Kobo Daishi in 820 AD. During the Meiji era, due to the government’s separation of Buddhism and Shintoism, the temple was converted into Jakko Shrine, and religious legends are still passed down today. Along the trail to the waterfall lies the massive Ikeishi Stone, shrouded in dense forest, adding a mystical aura to the site. From Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park, it takes about a 20-minute walk to reach the falls, making it a perfect spot for hiking and enjoying seasonal scenery, especially during spring and autumn.

"Nikko Waraku Odori" (folk dance) started in 1913 to commemorate the visit of their Majesties: the Taisho Emperor and Empress to the Nikko Copper Refinery, which was known as the predecessor of the present Nikko Works of Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd.   It was the very first time that the Emperor visited a private plant. "Nikko Waraku Odori" started at the celebration after the visit. The plant workers were filled with so much emotion, that they started dancing spontaneously after carrying out such an important mission of welcoming their Majesties.   Since then, this folk dance has been loved by people in Tochigi for over 100 years.

Nikko Botanical Garden is an institute for research and education of Graduate School of Science， University of Tokyo. The main activities of the Botanical Garden have centered on enriching the collections of temperate and alpine plants of Japan and adjacent regions for the purpose of botanical research and education. A total of 2，200 species (130 species of pteridophytes， 70 species of gymnosperms， and 2，000 species of angiosperms) are planted in the garden. Visitors can enjoy the garden's cherry blossoms in spring and the fall foliage in the fall."

This villa and garden used to be a retreat for the imperial prince in the 19th century. In the year 2000, they were opened to the public after renovation works. The residence, combining architectural styles of different periods, is well worth visiting. Located close to the “Shrines and Temples of Nikko”, it is easily accessible. Take a walk in the garden with seasonal charms and 100 years of majestic history. After the historic tour, relax at the teahouse serving popular Japanese treats such as a bowl of maccha. The little gorge formed by an eruption of nearby Mt. Nantai is a uniquely scenic spot. A row of approximately 70 Jizos are lined up along the south bank of the river. The group of Jizos is called “Baké-Jizo” because it is said that they are uncountable; if you try to count them， each time you will end up with a different number. Legend has it that the Sanskrit character “Kanman” on an upstream cliff was inscribed by Kobo Daishi， the founder of Shingon Buddhism， by throwing his brush. The Nikko Botanical Garden is on the opposite shore of the Jizos， and visitors can enjoy the scenic beauty in the seasons of spring verdant greens， autumn colours and snowy Jizos.
