These highlands， situated 1，200 metres above sea level， are a paradise of alpine plants and are well-known for the “Nikko Kisuge”. With 260，000 Nikko Kisuge blooming from late June to mid-July， the grasslands are carpeted in these bright yellow lilies. Walking paths through the fields are available. Enjoy azaleas in spring， autumn colours and skiing in winter! There are selections of restaurants， accommodations and leisure facilities to satisfy couples and families.

Jao Falls is a waterfall which runs into the Kinugawa River located alongside Prefectural Highway Route 23.The long， thin stream of water looks like a snake， hence the waterfall’s name (“ja” means serpent， and “o” is king). It's surrounded by forest， and the scenery is especially beautiful during spring with its young leaves and when the foliage turns colors in the fall."

Located just a stone’s throw from the bridge sits one of Kinugawa’s Furukama-no-taki. It’s not one of the popular， roaring waterfalls that Nikko is known for but rather a natural secret tip， lush， calm， and green."

This botanical garden is one of the largest north of the Kanto area. Its more than 13，000 square meter grounds blossom all year long with flowers representing around 600 varieties in some 8，000 planters. The garden also has a restaurant offering items such as its original begonia soft-serve ice cream. This is a 140-meter-long pedestrian suspension bridge which connects the Kinugawa hot spring resort to the Place of Scenic Beauty， “Tateiwa” (lit. Shield Rock). Below the bridge which has a height of about 40 meters， you can see the Kinugawa River， and you can enjoy the mountains which are dyed crimson and yellow during the season of autumn colors. Standing near to the suspension bridge， “Tateiwa” as its name suggests resembles the shape of a shield. It is also known as the “marriage bridge” as it connects the two， both the manly “Tateiwa” which rises up opposite the bridge and the feminine Kinugawa River which leisurely flows past."
