Narita Airport – Kujukuri Cycling
Cycle around Narita, from the satoyama to the sea
Rent a bike and ride through three rural towns filled with charming cafés, parks and museums on the way to the Kujukuri coastline on this active sightseeing adventure.

Scenic courses for all levels and interests
The featured 21km “History x Sky” course focuses on Shibayama Town and its proximity to the runways located at the southern end of Narita Airport. The ride begins and ends at Sora no Yu, whose main attraction is its rooftop open-air hot spring baths, from which you can watch the planes take off and land. After riding through fields of flowers and fertile satoyama in the foothills, you will dive into the historical valley, home to Shibayama Niouson Kannon Temple and the Shibayama Kofun Haniwa Museum of clay figures excavated from ancient burial mounds. Back at NRT, don’t miss taking a photo on Hikoki no oka park and be sure to visit the Museum of Aeronautical Sciences.

The easiest “Cafe x River” course is a flat 21km ride along the Kuriyama River to the ocean beach, stopping off at popular shops and homestyle cafés in Yokoshibahikari Town along the way. The longer 34km “Gourmet x Sea” course is also relatively flat, departing from Narutou Station and the cliff-hanging Namikiri Fudoin temple in Sammu Town, then cycling down to the beautiful coastline along Kujukuri Beach. Stop for a fresh seafood meal and shop for local Kujukuri produce, seafood and souvenirs at Road Station Orai Hasunuma, right next to Hasunuma Seaside Park. The last 6 kilometers are a bit more hilly, so you can also opt to return your bike at Orai Hasunuma and take a 20-minute taxi ride back to Naruto Station (or the shuttle bus to Narita Airport).

For avid and experienced cyclists who want to do it all, the hilly 74km “Sky x River x Sea” course passes through all four towns – departing from the airport, cycling through the mountains, down to the Kujukuri beach coastline, and back up through the satoyama.

Access to Kujukuri Cycling Courses
Each loop course begins and ends at a convenient place where you can get information, take a rest, have a bite to eat, and most importantly, rent and return your bike. Narita Airport Onsen Sora no Yu is a 3-minute walk from Shibayama-Chiyoda train station. You can also take a free shuttle bus from Narita Airport Terminal 2 or 3. Attuned to the local area and closer to the sea, Yokoshiba Station Information Exchange Center Yoridokoro is located right outside Yokoshiba Station, which is about a 40-minute bus ride from Narita Airport. The Narutou Station Tourist Exchange Center, housed in a small community building made from local Sammu cedar, is 1 hour away from Tokyo Station on the Shiosai Express train. There is also a shuttle bus from Narita Airport Terminal 2.
