A Legacy of Artistic Vision
Originally located in Tokyo, the Hara Museum rebranded as Hara Museum ARC in 2021, merging its legacy with a stunning new setting in Gunma Prefecture. Designed by world-renowned architect Arata Isozaki, the museum’s structure is a masterpiece of modern architecture that complements its surroundings. The museum features three main galleries: Gallery A, with its distinctive pyramid-shaped roof, and the elongated Gallery B and C wings. These spaces are designed to bathe exhibits in natural light, creating an intimate and tranquil atmosphere for viewing contemporary art. Alongside these is the Kankai Pavilion, a Japanese-style exhibition space inspired by Shoin-zukuri architecture, celebrating traditional Japanese design while housing art that bridges the past and present. Outdoors, visitors are greeted by permanent installations from globally recognized artists like Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Othoniel. These works interact with the landscape, inviting guests to explore and reflect on the harmonious interplay of art and nature. ©Photo by Shinya Kigure

Hara Museum ARC provides an immersive experience into both nature and culture. The sprawling grounds invite visitors to stroll among outdoor installations, soak in panoramic views of the Gunma countryside, and enjoy fresh air while connecting with art. ©Photo by Shinya Kigure
