A Legacy of Artistic Vision

Originally located in Tokyo, the Hara Museum rebranded as Hara Museum ARC in 2021, merging its legacy with a stunning new setting in Gunma Prefecture. Designed by world-renowned architect Arata Isozaki, the museum’s structure is a masterpiece of modern architecture that complements its surroundings.
The museum features three main galleries: Gallery A, with its distinctive pyramid-shaped roof, and the elongated Gallery B and C wings. These spaces are designed to bathe exhibits in natural light, creating an intimate and tranquil atmosphere for viewing contemporary art. Alongside these is the Kankai Pavilion, a Japanese-style exhibition space inspired by Shoin-zukuri architecture, celebrating traditional Japanese design while housing art that bridges the past and present.
Outdoors, visitors are greeted by permanent installations from globally recognized artists like Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Othoniel. These works interact with the landscape, inviting guests to explore and reflect on the harmonious interplay of art and nature.

For those seeking deeper engagement, the museum hosts various events, including guided tours, interactive workshops, and special exhibitions that change throughout the year. Visitors can relax at Café d’Art, which serves homemade meals and desserts inspired by seasonal ingredients and the current exhibitions.

How to Access Hara Museum ARC

By train, take the JR Joetsu or Hokuriku Shinkansen to Takasaki Station, then transfer to the Agatsuma Line to Shibukawa Station. From Shibukawa Station, it’s a 10-minute taxi ride to the museum. There is also a bus from Shibukawa Station. Take the Kan-etsu Kotsu bus bound for Ikaho Onsen or for Ikaho Onsen Harunaguchi and get off at the "Green Bokujo Mae" stop and walk about 7 minutes to the museum.
For those traveling by car, the museum is approximately 15 minutes from the Shibukawa Ikaho Interchange on the Kan-etsu Expressway. Free parking is available on-site.
