Experience & Activities Eat & Drink Culture & Arts
Nestled within the historic grounds of Musashi Ichinomiya Hikawa Shrine (said to be more than 2,400 years old), Hikawa Satei offers a unique respite for visitors seeking a moment of tranquility. Opened in January 2025, this café occupies the renovated Gakuden building, where centuries-old architectural elements have been thoughtfully preserved and reimagined for modern comfort. The renovation brilliantly maintains the building's original roof and structural framework while introducing a fresh design concept inspired by "water" and "ice:" motifs that pay homage to the shrine's name (Hikawa translates to "ice river"). The result is a stunning space where history and contemporary aesthetics coexist in perfect harmony, enhanced by sustainable design principles.
One of the café's greatest assets is its stunning view overlooking the shrine's meticulously maintained garden. Large windows frame the natural beauty outside, creating an atmosphere of calm contemplation where visitors can truly unwind and connect with the serene spirit of this sacred space.
Their specialty is the original Hikawa Satei café latte crafted from carefully selected beans. The real showstopper, however, is their seasonal art latte: an ever-changing artistic creation that transforms your drink into a visual masterpiece. Each design reflects the current season, making every visit a new experience worth savoring not just with your taste buds, but with your eyes as well.
Beyond the signature lattes, the menu offers matcha lattes for green tea enthusiasts, cocoa for chocolate lovers, and a selection of sweets to complement your beverage. Whether you're warming up after exploring the shrine grounds or simply seeking a peaceful retreat from daily life, Hikawa Satei provides the perfect setting: a destination where Japan's rich cultural heritage meets modern hospitality, offering a memorable experience that nourishes both body and soul.
