Shonan Wakasa Ei Yuu is the only studio in Kanagawa still making their wagasa (traditional Japanese umbrellas) entirely by hand. Wagasa were widely used during the Edo period (1603-1868), but quickly fell out of use during the Meiji period (1868-1912) with the popularization of Western umbrellas.The charms of wagasa are now being rediscovered, along with the traditional rituals and performances that they have long been used in. While the number of wagasa craftsmen is declining nationwide, a fascination with wagasa is growing both in Japan and overseas.

Fresh fish landed at Hiratsuka fishing port in the morning can be eaten locally on the same day. The smiling faces of the fishermen and the fish are brought directly to the customers' tables, and smiles and deliciousness are spread throughout the community. This is the concept of the Hiratsuka Fishing Port Restaurant.

Hiratsuka Offshore Comprehensive Experiment Tower is a marine and meteorological observation and oceanographic experiment platform installed in waters 1km off the coast of Hiratsuka, at a depth of 20m. Managed and operated by the University of Tokyo, the tower is used by various domestic and international research institutions as well as private equities for marine experiments. Easily identifed as the massive yellow structure visible from Hiratsuka Beach and in Ryujogaoka along National Route 134, it is nicknamed the "Hiratsuka Tower". Some visitors even paddle out to sea on standing paddleboards to get a close-up view!
