Ichijo Nisshutsu founded the Hongakuji in 1436 (Eikyo 8). Ashikaga Mochiuji built the temple where there was Ebisudo and donated to Nisshutsu. The second chief priest was Niccho Shonin, so the temple is known familiarly as “Niccho-sama”. The temple is also called as “Higashi Minobu”, because Minobusan shared out part of remains of Nichiren to the temple.

About 50 works and materials of Kamakurabori, a traditional craft boasting a history of about 800 years, are on display in the permanent exhibition. Relax and enjoy masterpieces from the Muromachi period (1336-1573) to the present while learning about the production process and its history. In the two-hour hands-on class, you can experience Kamakurabori making under the careful guidance of a full-time instructor. It is a program that even beginners can easily enjoy.

Visitors can enjoy drinks served in Kamakurabori lacquerware at a cafe and experience how it feels to use real lacquerware in daily life. The shop offers a variety of Kamakurabori that you may want to use in your daily life as well as items that go well with lacquerware. In the gallery, the various works of Kamakurabori artists along with other artists are displayed.

A cultural complex offering a place to experience history, culture, and exchange, with a café and store on the first floor and a gallery in the back, as well as a museum of Kamakura carvings on the third floor, and "Kamakura Sculpture Hall Cultural Workshops" on the second and fourth floors. In the Premium Workshop, visitors can experience making trays, plates, and other items under the direct guidance of Kamakura carving craftsmen to create one-of-a-kind works of art.
