The popular café chain Nikko Coffee, beloved by fans across Japan, opened its Nishisando branch in March 2020! In summer, visitors can enjoy shaved ice made with natural ice, while in mid-October, the shop also offers delicious treats like wagyu beef buns. With a concept of “Good things from Nikko, good things from Japan,” Nikko Coffee not only serves rich, aromatic coffee, but also sells handcrafted goods from Nikko and Tochigi Prefecture, as well as carefully selected items delivered from all over Japan.

Nikko Takaiya, the Japanese restaurant, opened in 1805. At the request of shrines and temples in Nikko (Nikko Toshogu, Nikko Futarasan-jinja, and Nikkozan Rinno-ji), we have been preparing dishes for their festivals for over 200 years. Today, the Nikko specialty ‘yuba’ dishes are quite popular among tourists. Our guests include the Imperial Family, cultural figures, and generations of local customers. Lately, international guests also enjoy the traditional Japanese cuisine and atmosphere at our restaurant, and we are very thankful for their patronage.

The history of the Nikko-zan Rinno-Ji Temple started over 1250 years ago, when Shodo Shonin (Saint Shodo), who firstly served as the head priest of Nikko, founded the Shihonryuji Temple. Sanbutsudo Hall is one of the largest wooden architectures in Nikkosan, and houses Buddhist statues respectively symbolizing honchibutsu (original Buddhist divinity), of the holy three mountains in Nikko, such as Senju-Kannon (Kannon with a thousand arms: honchibutsu of Mt. Nantai), Amidanyorai (Amitabha Tathagata: honchibutsu of Mt. Nyoho), and Bato-Kannon (Kannon with a horse head: honchibutsu of Mt. Taro), are 8m tall.

Nikko Momiji-za is a taishu engeki (popular theater) playhouse near Nikko Toshogu. It cherishes Japanese culture but at the same time pursues a new style of entertainment. Colorful and gorgeous costumes, a wide variety of plays, and tools and songs to add color to the play are some of the highlights. Momiji-za’s dance shows feature Japanese traditional folk music, enka songs, and pop songs, and at the same time incorporate the latest hit songs and music from overseas to entertain literally the general public from around the world. Taishu engeki is performing art created through the fusion of tradition and trends and everyone around the world will be sure to enjoy. Cottage Inn Restaurant & Bakery is a restaurant run by Kanaya Hotel Bakery, which is adjacent to the Kanaya Hotel History House. At the restaurant, you can enjoy a wide variety of combinations of bread from Kanaya Hotel Bakery and dishes prepared with fresh and high-quality ingredients hand-picked by the chef. The popular Lunch Plate offers choices of Hamburger Stew Stuffed Bread, a hearty dish of oven-baked campagne bread stuffed with a hamburger steak cooked in a demiglace sauce topped with cheese, Sautéed Yume Pork with Ginger Sauce using the Yume Pork brand produced in Tochigi Prefecture, and Beef Stew, a year-round popular dish made with the chef’s original recipe. The restaurant also has the Kanaya Hotel Bakery Shop with a rich lineup of bread and sweets such as cookies.
