Inhabit Edo-period(1603–1868) architecture with modern luxuries

Omikawatei is a private manor that once belonged to a family of wealthy farmers over a century ago. Today, it is one of the largest traditional houses for rent as a holiday accommodation in Chiba Prefecture. The interior retains the characteristics of Edo-period(1603–1868) buildings, such as tatami and hardwood floors, a kotatsu (heated table) in the dining room, a doma (earthen entrance floor) decorated with a symbolic hydrangea pattern, and even a coffee table made of old wood from the original house in a hybrid Japanese-Western living room.

The three-bedroom house is surrounded by a landscaped garden with a wooden deck, recreational swing and barbecue grill in the backyard. Be sure to spend some time in the former kura (storehouse), which has been completely renovated into a multifunctional space with long cross beams under a high ceiling, a wooden staircase leading up to an open loft, a large floor with studio mirrors, and a projector to watch movies on the wall. Imagine how much fun you would have in this highly adaptable space!
And what would a luxury Japanese accommodation be without a private rotemburo (open-air bath)? Soak in soothing hot water and gaze at the stars on a clear night, or just sit back and relax at any time while taking in the panoramic view of Tako, from farmlands to mountain forests, a different scene in every season.
