Ichihara Lakeside Museum is a cultural landmark that highlights the bond between art and the environment. Overlooking the expansive Takataki Lake, the museum is rooted in local history as the former Ichihara City Water and Sculpture Hill, a site originally opened in 1995. It was renovated in 2013 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the city of Ichihara, transforming the space into a contemporary art hub. The lake, which has the largest water storage area in Chiba Prefecture, provides a stunning backdrop that enhances the museum’s tranquil yet vibrant atmosphere.

Getting to Ichihara Lakeside Museum

From Tokyo, take the JR Uchibo Line to Goi Station, then transfer to the Kominato Railway and get off at Takataki Station. From there, it’s a short taxi ride to the museum. For those traveling by car, it’s about an hour’s drive from the Tokyo metropolitan area, with parking facilities available on-site.
