Sasanokawa Shuzo, the company behind the distillery, owes its success to small-batch produced bottles of liquor made with the finest quality ingredients, each of which has their own unique aroma and flavor profile.

The distillery opens its doors to visitors who would like to see the brewing process for themselves and learn how world-class whiskey is produced in this corner of the Japanese countryside.

A Prize-Winning Sake and Whiskey Distillery
Sasanokawa Shuzo has been winning awards for its liquor since 2012, and visitors can see how the magic happens on a guided tour of their Asaka Distillery building. Japanese whiskeys have been gaining more and more traction overseas, including those made by Sasanokawa Shuzo at the Asaka Distillery. Their popularity domestically and abroad is a testament to high quality ingredients, tried and true brewing methods, as well as the skills and experience that have been passed down for generations. Also , each bottle produced by Sasanokawa Shuzo is a little different - the climate, temperature inside the distillery, and the use of different types and shapes of aging barrels, all contribute to subtle changes in flavor from one bottle to the next.

Experience Traditional Japanese Sake and Whiskey Brewing
Tour groups will get to witness how Sasanokawa Shuzo’s finest liquors are made, from huge bronze pot stills used to distill the whiskey to towering mash tuns, another piece of gleaming brewing apparatus. A tour of the Asaka Distillery is a great chance to experience traditional Japanese sake brewing and get a close look at each step in the brewing process.

Access to Asaka Distillery
Koriyama City is accessible via Shinkansen from Tokyo Station in around 80 minutes. From Koriyama Station, visitors can take the JR Suigun Line or JR Tohoku Line to Asakanagamori Station and walk about 15 minutes to the distillery.
