Asakusa Taiyaki Guraku
Experience Japan’s sweetest tradition in the heart of Asakusa
Learn the art of making taiyaki, Japan’s iconic fish-shaped cake, in a fun hands-on experience that connects culture, taste, and tradition.

Step into the world of taiyaki, a beloved Japanese sweet shaped like a fish!
With its golden, crispy exterior and warm filling – usually sweet red bean paste – taiyaki has been cherished in Japan for over a century as a symbol of good fortune and happiness. Located in one of Tokyo’s most historic and culturally rich districts, Asakusa Taiyaki Guraku takes this traditional treat beyond simple tasting, letting you experience the joy of making your very own taiyaki from start to finish. The highlight of the visit is the “Taiyaki Experience,” a workshop that lets you try your hand at every step of the process. Under the guidance of friendly staff, you’ll pour the batter, add the filling, and carefully bake your taiyaki using authentic cast-iron molds, just like a professional vendor would. Watching your creation slowly take shape and turn golden brown will be as satisfying as the first bite itself. The experience lasts about 50 minutes for 6 pieces for adults and 3 pieces for children, and participants can enjoy their freshly made taiyaki on-site or take it home.

Guraku’s interactive and fun approach makes it popular among families, groups of friends, and international tourists. The bright, comfortable interior – decorated with typical Japanese motifs – creates a nice atmosphere and the perfect setting for Instagrammable shots. In addition to the hands-on workshop, the venue also serves freshly baked taiyaki for those who simply want to try them. They often introduce seasonal flavors and creative twists on the traditional filling, offering something new even if you are already familiar with classic taiyaki.

More than just a sweets shop, Asakusa Taiyaki Guraku aims to share Japanese food culture and hospitality through a practical culinary experience. It makes an easy and enjoyable stop during a day of exploring Asakusa’s many attractions, such as Senso-ji Temple and Nakamise Street.

Easily accessible from Asakusa Station and Tawaramachi Station, this venue is a must-visit for anyone who wants to taste – and create – a piece of Japan’s cultural heritage. Photo courtesy of asakusa taiyaki guraku
