Fukushima Ouse Winery

A Taste of Fukushima’s Fruitful Spirit in Koriyama City

Discover the unique flavors of Fukushima Prefecture with a visit to the Fukushima Ouse Winery in Koriyama City. Established in 2015, this winery is more than just a place to taste wine: it’s a symbol of the region’s resilience and creativity after the hardship of the Great East Japan Earthquake. With a new business model that combines the production, processing, and sales of locally grown fruits, the winery is part of the “Fukushima Winery Project,” supporting local farmers and brands.

At Fukushima Ouse Winery, wine enthusiasts and gourmets can taste and purchase wines crafted from locally grown grapes, ciders, liquors, and soft drinks made from Fukushima’s renowned peaches, pears, and apples. The goal is to increase the value of local fruits, creating products that showcase the prefecture as Japan’s “fruit kingdom”. The winery works closely with farmers who have embraced the challenge of cultivating wine grapes for the first time, often through trial and error. With the support of Koriyama City, their collective efforts bore fruit in 2019, when the first wine made from Koriyama-grown grapes was released. Named "Vin de Ollage,” after the local dialect word "orage" (meaning "one’s home"), this wine symbolizes a deep connection to the region and its traditions.

As a “winery of encounters,” Fukushima Ouse Winery offers visitors the chance to connect with Fukushima’s fruits and its people. You can peek at the winery’s production process through large observation windows that offer views of the brewing tank room, barrel storage area, and stills. For a more in-depth experience, guided tours led by staff are available with a reservation. The highlight of the visit is undoubtedly the wine tasting, with free and paid options.
