Irimizu Limestone Cave
Adventure awaits deep in the darkness of this Fukushima Cave
Spelunkers can plunge nearly a kilometer into the depths of Irimizu Limestone Cave to discover incredible formations that have been hidden underground for thousands of years.

Real Caving Adventure in a Beautiful Environment
Discovered in 1927 just outside of Sendaihara in Takine Town, this cave was thoroughly explored within its first few years and designated a natural monument in 1934. Its eerie limestone formations were carved out by natural spring water that continues to flow through the cave at a temperature of 10 degrees Celsius.

Three Courses For Different Experiences
The cave can be explored up to a depth of 900 meters, but since there is only one entrance and exit, you will double the distance of the route as you return to the surface. Route A extends 150 meters into the cave and is for general tourists. It can be explored without a change of clothes or concerns about getting wet. Route B goes deeper, to 600 meters, and involves walking or crawling in cold water through darker regions of the cave that may require a headlamp.

Course C is a guided tour that goes deeper still to the full 900 meters, requiring advance reservations, and is recommended for experienced spelunkers who don’t mind crawling through tight spaces with only the light of their headlamp to guide them.

Access to Irimizu Limestone Cave
The cave can be reached by taxi in 5 minutes from Sugaya Station on the JR EAST Ban-etsu East Line.
