Nagareyama Kaleidoscope Gallery & Museum

A Mesmerizing World of Color and Creativity

Hidden on the historic streets of Nagareyama in Chiba, the Nagareyama Kaleidoscope Gallery & Museum offers visitors the chance to experience the unique and immersive world of kaleidoscopic art. The museum is located in a preserved storehouse that was built in 1889 and was once owned by the Terada family, one of the six pioneering families in the area. This is the only original storehouse remaining on the street, with its black plaster finish adding a touch of historical charm to the neighborhood gallery.

A Rotating Collection of Kaleidoscope Art

The museum showcases a selection of handcrafted kaleidoscopes created by artists from all around the world. At the heart of the collection are the works of Yasuko Nakazato, a globally renowned kaleidoscope artist who resides in Nagareyama. Her designs, together with those of other Japanese and international creators, transform simple reflections into a shiny dance of light and colors. The exhibited pieces are regularly rotated, so each visit offers a fresh perspective and a new array of patterns and colors.
