Omikawatei
A traditional Japanese residence with a history of more than 150 years
Experience Japan’s quiet countryside from the comfort of a fully renovated kominka in Chiba.

Inhabit Edo-period(1603–1868) architecture with modern luxuries
Omikawatei is a private manor that once belonged to a family of wealthy farmers over a century ago. Today, it is one of the largest traditional houses for rent as a holiday accommodation in Chiba Prefecture. The interior retains the characteristics of Edo-period(1603–1868) buildings, such as tatami and hardwood floors, a kotatsu (heated table) in the dining room, a doma (earthen entrance floor) decorated with a symbolic hydrangea pattern, and even a coffee table made of old wood from the original house in a hybrid Japanese-Western living room. The three-bedroom house is surrounded by a landscaped garden with a wooden deck, recreational swing and barbecue grill in the backyard. Be sure to spend some time in the former kura (storehouse), which has been completely renovated into a multifunctional space with long cross beams under a high ceiling, a wooden staircase leading up to an open loft, a large floor with studio mirrors, and a projector to watch movies on the wall. Imagine how much fun you would have in this highly adaptable space!

And what would a luxury Japanese accommodation be without a private rotemburo (open-air bath)? Soak in soothing hot water and gaze at the stars on a clear night, or just sit back and relax at any time while taking in the panoramic view of Tako, from farmlands to mountain forests, a different scene in every season.

Taste the local flavors of Tako Town
For budding chefs and foodies who love nothing more than cooking with local ingredients and savoring home-cooked meals with family or friends, Omikawatei includes a fully integrated kitchen equipped with a large refrigerator and everything you need to cook, serve and eat. In addition to the outdoor barbecue, the wooden counter table that extends from the doma features an authentic teppanyaki iron grill, so you can also grill your food right at the table like a pro. If you prefer sampling cuisine directly from the local community, Omikawatei offers a service that delivers meals from long-established restaurants in Tako, so you can also enjoy exploring the neighborhood with your taste buds from the comfort of the accommodation.
