The Suginamiki Cedar Avenue in Nikko is a 37 kilometer (22 mile) stretch of tree-lined road extending along the Aizu Nishi-Kaido Road, the Reiheishi-Kaido Road， and the Nikko-Kaido Road. Matsudaira Masatsuna, a loyal subject of Tokugawa Ieyasu, planted 50,000 cedar trees over a period of 20 years starting in 1625. The trees line the approach to Nikko Toshogu Shrine， and on the 33rd anniversary of Ieyasu's death, Masatsuna donated the trees to the shrine in his honor. Cedar trees were chosen due to the ancient belief that the gods descend from the heavens down to Earth through cedar trees. Today， about 12，000 trees remain, and they are now protected. This truly magnificent tree-lined avenue was traversed by feudal lords in the Edo period roughly 400 years ago. Feel the history of the area as you retrace their footsteps.

Furumine Shrine was built to worship the legendary hero Yamato Takeru 1，300 years ago. The shrine is where the monk Shodo Shonin， founder of the temples in Nikko， was trained. The shrine is also known for the enshrined Tengu， a messenger from the gods who protects people from bad luck. People come here to pray for good luck， fire protection， safe voyage， rich harvests， traffic safety， business success and family health as the god is believed to make all these wishes come true.

Accessible via a 2.5-hour drive from Tokyo or a free shuttle bus service operated from the Kinugawa Onsen station throughout the season. The ski resort is family-friendly and suitable for beginners. It provides a richly varied 11 trails to suit visitors of any ability level， from lower slopes for families and beginners， a child-friendly area for snow play to a cross course and a mogul run for experts.

Hotel MOKUREN is a traditional Japanese house turned into an accommodation. They take only one reservation at a time, so guests can exclusively use the two spacious Japanese style rooms during their stay while enjoying a view of the vast countryside. Feel the essence of Japan in a relaxing space and enjoy a farming experience in adjacent fields and in the traditional storehouse, as well as sightseeing in Nasunogahara. The hotel does not have a meal service, but the guest room includes a kitchen where you can cook harvested farm products. The storehouse has a cooking stove for preparing rice and BBQ equipment. There are also restaurants and diners near the hotel. The guest room has a shower, but if you wish to have a relaxing soak in a larger space, you can try a nearby onsen. You can also borrow bicycles.

The Taihei Kikan serves as the base facility for tourism in the city， and is surrounded by the Ashikaga School， Bannaji Temple and Sentokuji Temple， and also provides sales of Ashikaga City souvenirs and Tourist Information as well as offering both a rest space and rental cycles. Along with regional sweets， original goods， and finished goods for sale you can also rent bicycles."

This is a spacious park along both banks of the Daiya River， which runs through the city. It was built around the concept of appreciating the natural beauty of Nikko. The park includes auto camping grounds， sports fields， athletic training areas， a small restaurant serving local vegetables and natural features such as ponds and streams. Daiya-taiken-kan display a model of Nikko Toshogu (1/10 scale). Buildings， paintings and sculptures are finely expressed. "

Wagyu beef is raised with great care by designated production farmers in Tochigi Prefecture. Tochigi Wagyu beef is a brand that only permits its name to be given to the finest quality meat mixed with even more fat that has an A4 or B4 grade or higher. It is exquisite beef that has been acclaimed number one in Japan repeatedly at national-level competitive shows.

Torafugu are cultivated using onsen water that wells up in the town of Nakagawa. It is known that pufferfish raised in hot spring water have approximately 30% extra umami (fifth basic food taste) ingredients. The taste of these puffer fish is even richer than those produced in the sea. This means there is no doubt that you can savor a taste overflowing with luxury! You can try onsen torafugu in the onsen facilities and restaurants in the town. Please appreciate the taste of torafugu when you visit Nakagawa!

The silk textile known as “Ashikaga Meisen” was popular for contemporary colours and innovative patterns in the early 1900s. Dress up in an “Ashikaga Meisen” Kimono at the Ashikaga Machinaka Yugakukan and take a stroll through the stone-paved streets of the historic town. You can even enjoy coordinating Kimonos with modern accessories such as boots and hats in the local style. Come and have a unique and memorable experience!

The town of Shimotsuke offers bike rental to tourists (adults and children over 13 years old) at Ishibashi station， Jichiidai station and Koganei station. Head for the Tempyo-no-Oka Park by bike and explore the historic sites located in the park. Or extend your journey a little further to the Michi-no-Eki Shimotsuke and enjoy shopping for local products!

Nikko is home to 3 of the 5 ice houses or "Himuro" that currently exist in all of Japan. ("Hi" means "ice"，"muro" means "room".) The other ice houses are found in Chichibu and Karuizawa. Nikko’s natural water is frozen for 2 weeks and preserved in an ice room year round. The shaved ice is soft and won’t give you a headache even if you eat it quickly! Each shop in Nikko has its own shaved ice specialty. Try ujikintoki with maccha (powdered green tea)，syrup and bean jam on top. Maybe strawberry or melon syrup is more your style? Utsunomiya city hosts the major cycle road race held every October. Top-class cyclists from around the world gather here to compete， the only chance to see the “Tour de France” cyclists in Japan! Oh-dori (main street) is closed off， and the sight of the criterium turning the streets into a racecourse is totally exhilarating.

A museum dedicated to Iwashita Young Ginger (pickled ginger)， which is commonly eaten across Japan. The inside of the museum is a soft pink， matching the distinct color of the products. There are also plenty of playful photo spots at the museum for you to have fun and enjoy yourself， such as the "Ginger Jinja" (Ginger Shrine) that's said to give you good luck in love， and a giant， 5-meter tall young ginger "hat" that you can try on. There is also a museum shop and cafe， so the museum is great for buying souvenirs and having a light meal too.

This traditional and sacred festival is the biggest one of Nikko Toshogu Shrine. On May 17, the Shrine holds the yabusame ritual in which you can see archers’ arts of piloting the horses and shooting arrows on horsebacks.   On May 18, the city has the procession called Hyakumono-Zoroe Sennin Gyoretsu, in which some 1,000 men dressed in samurai warrior outfits march to reproduce the scene where Ieyasu’s grave was being transferred from distant Mount Kunousan in Shizuoka Prefecture to Nikko.
