Revered as Sochinju (central place to pray for local gods), Matsubara Shrine had been worshipped by successive castellans of Odawara Castle which includes lords of Odawara Hojo Clan in the Sengoku period.

With a trunk circumference of 4.5 meters, it is the largest inumaki tree in Odawara City and is designated as a natural monument of the city. Out of all of the large trees in the Odawara Castle Ruins, this inumaki is the most magnificent in shape.

Odawara Castle Ruins Park, centered on Honmaru Square where the castle tower is situated, is designated as a National Historic Site and is one of Odawara's most popular tourist attractions. The park is well known for its cherry and plum blossoms, and the numerous events held there throughout the year.

This is Odawara City's largest festival to honor the Hojo clan, a set of feudal lords who reigned over the Kanto region for five generations for about 100 years during the Warring States Period, a time of fierce rivalry between the warriors, and who created a nation with the ideal of the well-being of its people. A total of 1,700 people parade in the city in a heroic procession of warriors, mainly modeled after the five successive lords of the Hojo clan, with the participation of local brass bands, the Ground Self-Defense Force, and other musical groups, as well as portable shrines and other town groups. In addition, there will be a firing performance by the Hojo Tepposhu and a performance by the Fuuma Ninjas in the streets.

The facility is based on the motif of the Fuuma Ninja, who are said to have supported the Hojo clan during the Warring States period, and allows visitors to learn about the history of the five generations of the Hojo clan and the Fuuma Ninja through hands-on experience.
