There are many places that you can try dragnet fishing in the Kanagawa Prefecture. The traditional method of dragnet fishing involves the net being put out in advance and later pulled in to reveal what has been caught. When participating in dragnet fishing as a tourist activity, you will be experiencing pulling in the net that fisherman have put out. The fish which have been caught are often cooked on a BBQ soon after.You can experience traditional seine fishing from April to October. A BBQ grill set is also available for borrowing so you can cook and eat your freshly caught fish on the spot.

Odawara lacquerware is created using a technique passed down since the Muromachi period (1336-1573). The artist repeatedly rubs unrefined lacquer using a potter's wheel and combines the “kijironuri” and “irourushinuri” techniques, blending together to create handmade lacquerware which accentuates the beautiful wood grain of the natural materials. At Okawa Mokkoujo (wood turning and potter's workshop) we create various types of lacquerware, including trays and bowls, as well as polishing experiences for soup bowls, dish boxes, and balls. We also create one-of-a-kind patterns using water paper. Any items made can be taken home the same day and used at home. (Optional: apply lacquer to the item for a glossy finish. This takes around three weeks to complete and costs 1,500 yen, including shipping).

Yakatafune operates mainly at the Port of Yokohama and also in Tokyo. This bus carries you from Yokohama Station to Nogeyama Zoo, a free zoo which is rare nowadays, in about 20 minutes. The bus runs between Yokohama Station/Sakuragi-cho Station and Nogeyama Zoo.

Just a short walk from Keikyu Kawasaki Station, you can try your hand at making "Kiriko", a traditional glass craft, at a workshop located along the old Tokaido road at the ruins of a Kawasaki post. Visitors can choose from a variety of glasses and plates and consult with the studio to find their favorite design, so even beginners can try their hand at faceting. Take your creations home as souvenirs!The classroom nestled within an aesthetic building that was renovated from an old liquor wholesaler. You will use two types of grinders to sharpen the glass, but even beginners can feel at ease as each class is held in small groups, with careful and detailed instruction. 

A barrier-free urban strawberry orchard run by a nursing couple.You don't have to travel far to visit and anyone is welcome.Their Spanish suspended cultivation system with wide aisles allows wheelchairs and strollers to pass through. The view of the strawberries overhead is spectacular.Even children can harvest at just the right height. Please use scissors and a basket to harvest the strawberries and enjoy them at a table.Please enjoy seeing and tasting the strawberries ripened to perfection in the sunlight.

Shonan Wakasa Ei Yuu is the only studio in Kanagawa still making their wagasa (traditional Japanese umbrellas) entirely by hand. Wagasa were widely used during the Edo period (1603-1868), but quickly fell out of use during the Meiji period (1868-1912) with the popularization of Western umbrellas.The charms of wagasa are now being rediscovered, along with the traditional rituals and performances that they have long been used in. While the number of wagasa craftsmen is declining nationwide, a fascination with wagasa is growing both in Japan and overseas.

This plantation offers you the opportunity to taste strawberries grown in organic soil. The soil is rich in nutrients, giving the strawberries a rich sweetness with a refreshing acidity. “Tochiotome” and “Benihoppe (Red Cheek)” strawberries are available to pick between early January and early June. The homemade Strawberry Daifuku (2 for 600 yen, 3 for 900 yen) are made from their strawberries and are extremely popular, so pre-orders are a must. They also sell jam (800 yen). *Make sure to also give the adjacent Kayama Farm Cafe a try!
