Ofuna Kannon Temple

The Ōfuna Kannon in the west of Ōfuna Station in Kamakura City is an eye-catching huge white statue of Kannon. Although there were instances where the construction of this statue had to be stopped due to WWII, it was completed in 1960 (Showa 35) and is now a symbol of Kamakura City Ōfuna Ward, gently protecting the many visitors who come to pray.This modern temple is home to the Ofuna Kannon, a 25-meter statue of the Buddhist goddess of mercy, watching serenely over visitors. At the Yume Kannon Festival held in autumn each year, you can watch performances of music and dance from around Asia.

Approximately 10,000 pieces of artwork including folkcrafts from across the country, Japanese local toys, western paintings, Japanese paintings, sculptures, cutout pictures, books, ink paintings, and ceramics are displayed behind the front desk on the first floor. The owner of the hotel collected these materials in 1951 and Atsugi Museum Hotel is the only local place in the central area of Kanagawa to have this kind of collection.

Izumotaisha Sagamibunshi

Izumotaisha Sagamibunshi

The shrine enshrines Okuninushi no Mikoto, the deity of Izumo Taisha, Shimane Prefecture. It formally became a branch of the Izumo Taisha sect in 1888. It has a unique wooden shrine building that combines Taisha-zukuri and Gongen-zukuri styles and features a long hall called the "Winged Hall". The shrine itself is known as the "Izumo of Kanto" and features the 1,000-year-old zelkova tree, which towers over the grounds rich in nature, and the famous Hadano spring. The Yuzuri no Mizu (Yuzuri Water) drawn from 50m below the forest is also very popular among visitors (it is drinkable, and health inspections are carried out yearly). Seasonal events are often held, and many worshippers come throughout the year, as well as visitors for Goshuin (shrine stamps). (Free parking available for up to 130 cars. Tour buses require reservations.)

A barrier-free urban strawberry orchard run by a nursing couple.You don't have to travel far to visit and anyone is welcome.Their Spanish suspended cultivation system with wide aisles allows wheelchairs and strollers to pass through. The view of the strawberries overhead is spectacular.Even children can harvest at just the right height. Please use scissors and a basket to harvest the strawberries and enjoy them at a table.Please enjoy seeing and tasting the strawberries ripened to perfection in the sunlight.

Given Kamakura’s beauty, tranquil atmosphere and relative size, getting around by bicycle is a recommended way to see the best of Japan’s ancient capital.At this bicycle rental shop, which has been in operation since 1974, choose between standard-, multi-speed- and electric-assist bicycles. Prices start at 600 yen (standard bike / 1 hour). For an additional 300 yen, you can also choose to drop off your bike at Enoshima Station (by 4pm) but advance registration is required. After exploring Kamakura’s leafy side streets and stopping off at some of its Buddhist temples, ride along the coast towards Enoshima, enjoying the views of the ocean and Mt. Fuji along the way.

Tsujimura Botanical Park

Tsujimura Botanical Park

Tsujimura Botanical Park is an expansive botanical garden that is around 4.7 hectares in size. The park has an area for trees and shrubs from abroad, giving it an exotic feel. The plum grove takes up the majority of the space in the park. In spring, approximately 350 trees that make up the plum grove come into full bloom and many sightseers come to visit. You can also have picnics on the hills in the higher areas of the park and enjoy fantastic views. The adjacent Wanpaku Land offers playground equipment that you can enjoy with your children.

Please visit the facility's website for the latest information.There are various flowers beds in the park, with the seasonal flowers blooming in profusion all year round. There are different areas for different flowers such as the rose garden or Chinese peony garden. There are sometimes exhibitions inside the greenhouse. There is also a lawn area, a pond, and a Japanese garden. Enjoy relaxing amongst the beautiful and cute flowers.

Nihon Odori

Nihon Odori

Nihon Odori is the first western style street in Japan. It was completed in 1870 and designed by R.H. Blanton. The stately historic buildings such as Kanagawa Prefectural Government, the Yokohama Archives of History, Yokohama District Court, Mitsui & Co.,Ltd. Yokohama building and the old Kanto Local Finance Bureau etc. line the Nihon Odori. In autumn, open cafes along the road are a popular resting spot with a view of beautifully colored ginkgo.Known for its gorgeous ginko trees, the street is most beautiful in autumn when the leaves are golden and the air is crystal clear.
