Mashiko is dotted with a number of relaxing cafés serving treats and drinks in Mashiko-ware. Many of these cafés are off the beaten path, so they often go unnoticed by those who haven’t done their research.

The annual Sunflower Festival is held at the outskirts of Mashiko Town every second week of August . The fields are about 10 hectares in size for the sunflowers. Entrance and parking is free.  

Considered Nasu's foremost waterfall， Komadome Falls is three meters wide and falls approximately twenty meters from a cliff on the Yosasa River. Once， it was a waterfall that can only be seen after the leaves have fallen， but along with the establishment of Nasu Heisei no Mori Forest in 2011， as well as a falls observatory， it became possible to catch a glimpse of Komagome Falls throught the seasons (closed during winter). The observation deck allows you to see a full view of the waterfall from above， which is surrounded by emerald green trees in the early summer and a rainbow of colorful leaves in the fall. Around the end of October， when the autumn leaves are at their peak， the contrast of red and yellow in the valleys together with the clear blue of the waterfalls is a spectacular sight for visitors."

Izuruhara Benten Pond, the source of the Izuru River, is designated a Prefectural Natural Treasure and was selected as one of the nation’s clearest water sources by the Ministry of Environment. Take a look down into the transparent water and you will find Koi fish with sparkling scales swimming gracefully over swaying water plants. Samples of the pristine water are available to take home from the neighbouring Ichinokan hotel. Be sure to take a close look at the main building of Isoyama Benzaiten Shrine. Reconstructed in the Kamakura period (1185-1333)， this cultural property is constructed without nails and displays the beauty of traditional Japanese architectural methods. Isoyama Benzaiten (nicknamed Fuzai) is a goddess of music, arts and knowledge and is one of seven lucky Sano gods built here in 948. The Benzaiten Shrine was moved here at the request of “Suisha-ko”, a group of devout local worshippers.

Sagami puppet show, a form of Japanese puppet show with shamisen accompaniment that was conveyed to Sagami Province in the Edo Period, is a traditional art that was originally nurtured in Kagawa Prefecture. It is characterized by san-nin zukai, referring to the operation of puppets by a trio of puppeteers, and teppozashi, which refers to the appearance similar to aiming a rifle when operating the puppet’s head.
