Strawberry picking at Nikko Strawberry Park

Strawberry picking at Nikko Strawberry Park

Nikko Strawberry Park is the first strawberry grower in Tochigi to be certified by Global G.A.P.*, and is committed to high standards of safety and quality. Nikko experiences dramatic changes in temperature between the mornings and evenings, and has a source of clean water in the Nikko Mountain Range. These elements combined with the farmer's skill produce juicy strawberries with the perfect balance of sweetness and sourness. Additionally, there is a space where the strawberries are grown in movable elevated benches, eliminating the need to bend over to pick them so that visitors in wheelchairs or with baby carriages can also enjoy strawberry picking. *Global G.A.P. is an internationally recognized label granted to deserving companies in recognition of their practice of sustainable production which takes into account food safety, labor conditions, and environmental impact. G.A.P. stands for "Good Agricultural Practices".

Irohazaka

Irohazaka is a pair of winding roads (ascending and descending) connecting Nikko-city and the mountainous Lake Chuzenji area. The roads are named after the 48 syllables of the Japanese alphabet (kana) as they contain 48 hairpin turns while rising and falling 440 metres in elevation. The best viewing spot is the Akechidaira observatory on the descending road. The picturesque landscape is known as the most beautiful place to celebrate autumn leaves in Nikko, and it is well worth putting up with the traffic on the roads at this popular time.

Kirifuri Falls

Kirifuri Falls

Kirifuri Waterfall is an impressive, two-tiered waterfall located below the Kirifuri Highlands. The upper being 25 meters, and the lower being 26 meters with a total length of 75 meters. The waterfall is split into two upper and lower stages, it is called Kirifuri because of the fact that when the lower stage hits the rocks the water scatters into fog (the characters in the waterfall's name "kiri" means "fog" in Japanese and "furi" means to fall. ) The surrounding nature blends together with the scenery gracefully, and this magnificent view was captured by Katsushika Hokusai in a representative Edo-era ukiyo-e (wood block print). Upstream of Kirifuri Falls, there is a little-known spot known as "Kirifuri Kakure Santaki" or The Three Hidden Waterfalls of Kirifuri. It is about 10 meters high, but there is the powerful "Choji no Taki", and “Tamasudare no Taki”."
