Built in 1987， Mikaeri Suspension Bridge stretches 100 metres across and 30 metres over Shiobara Gorge. The bridge is known as the starting point of the Shiobara Gorge walking trail and has a charm unique from the magnificent neighbouring Momijidani Suspension Bridge. Cross the Mikaeri Suspension Bridge and walk a further 10 metres to the observation deck for incredible views of Mikaeri Falls.

Volcanic rocks， having been eroded by the flow of the Kinugawa River， produce a dynamic vista resembling a dragon wriggling around. You can see this 3-kilometre vista between Kawaji Onsen and Kinugawa Onsen. Many tourists come to see the stunning autumn leaves from late October to early November. The 7-kilometre nature trail leading to Kawaji Onsen is highly recommended for a nice walk.

This feature festival of Yunishikawa Onsen is held from late January to early March every year. Hundreds of small snow houses (mini-kamakura) are built and lighted up by candle lights. During the day enjoy sleighing. The floats, intricately carved with flowers, birds, lions, and other designs, are well worth seeing. The climax of the festival can be said to be the Buttsuke (a musical ensemble) performance by nine floats with golden lanterns.

Mashiko Gion Festival began in 1705, when an epidemic of infectious diseases killed many people and pests infested crops, people pray to Tenno for illnesses and harvest. Five towns take turns organizing the festival. The organizer sets up a mikoya and carries the mikoshi out of the shrine for the first day and last day of the festival. On the second day of the festival, a traditional event call “Sake Topping Festival(Omiki Cho-dai Shiki)” is held on organizer’s town. Male worshippers in formal kimonos drink hot sake under the scorching heat to pray for a good harvest and health. After the organizer side finished their drinks, 10 men from next organize town also need to challenge it. This festival is one of the “Top 3 Strange Festivals of Kanto Area”. Also, on the first night of the festival, people will set off Tezutsu-hanabi with majestic yells is breathtaking.

Otawara City holds the “Yoichi Festival” on the first Friday and Saturday in August every year. This festival is in honor of Nasu Yoichi, the most famous archer in Japanese history. Highlights of the festival is the samurai parade. An actor/actress would cosplay Nasu Yoichi and lead the parade walk around downtown. You can see a traditional dance named “Yoichi Buyo” at night when you walk on street during the festival.

Join a tour of the factory manufacturing the popular local rice cracker “Nikko Jingoro Senbei”! This traditional Senbei is named after Jingoro Hidari， an artist who made the famous wood carving of the sleeping cat at the Nikko Toshogu Shrine.

The Local History Exhibition and Reference Room displays valuable artifacts related to the history and culture of Kanuma City, including the carved floats that are the pride of Kanuma City. In the Carved Floats Exhibition Room, there are two carved floats on display which are used in the Kanuma Imamiya Shrine Festival Yatai Event. They are UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.

You can experience grabbing freshwater fish by hand in the clear waters of the Ojikagawa  rivers and Kinugawa Park.  The fish you catch can then be cooked for you and eaten at your ryokan.  

* Nikko Soba Festival has been cancelled in 2020. At the Nikko Soba Festival， you can enjoy soba noodles made not only in Nikko—famous for its buckwheat production—but also in other parts of Japan. Be sure to visit the street stands selling utensils for making and eating soba alongside other specialty products from Nikko. Don’t miss the various traditional performances that accompany the noodles."

The waterfall can be reached via a 10 minute walk from the Ryushun parking area on the left side of the road past the Saruiwa Tunnel on National Route 400. Just past the Ryushun no Tsuribashi suspension bridge， the falls are 15 meters tall. The falls’ name means “spring flowing，” said to be an allusion to the fact that the falls dry up for three months in winter and don’t start flowing again until spring. Although not a particularly strong waterfall， the sight of the waters quietly flowing over the bare rock wall is elegant and soothing. The area around where the Ryushun no Tsuribashi suspension bridge crosses Senryu Gorge is also quite beautiful and popular destination to walk."

The Onsen area spreads around two Shinto shrines (the Toshogu and the Futarasan-jinja) and a Buddhist temple (the Rinnoji) of Nikko. The source of hot spring was rediscovered in recent years at the place where Kobo Daishi， a famous Buddhist monk and skilled calligrapher of the 8th century， used to call it a “hot spring of a vision”. The clear hot spring water， which is more comfortable for people who do not like sulphur， helps stiff shoulders and nerve pain and promotes beautiful skin. It is perfectly located to visit the World Heritage sites， stroll around the Monzenmachi Street and take a relaxing soak afterward.

A museum dedicated to the works of Hiroshige Utagawa， an Ukiyo-e artist of the Edo period. You can get a glimpse of Japanese culture of the 19th century through his original drawings and Hanga (woodblock prints). The entire museum is made of local cedar and washi (handcrafted paper) designed by the global architect， Kengo Kuma， with a concept of “the traditional and serene appearance that expresses the artistry and tradition of Hiroshige”. Many visitors also come here to study design.

A festival in order to in honor Heike Family The Taira Clan (also called Heike), one of the most powerful family in Heian period, dominated the imperal captain of Heian. However, after the death of their leader, Taira no Kiyomori, their rivals the Minamoto Clan (the Genji),which culminated in the Genpei War (1180-1185 AD). The five-year-long war concluded with a decisive Taira defeat in the naval Battle of Dan-no-Ura.   It is said many Heike family and their samurais ran away from Genji's army, and hided in Yunishigawa Onsen. In order to honor those samurai who fighting for the Heike family, people live in Yunishigawa Onsen hold the "Heike Taisai" every year.   Become a princess of Heike!  A traditional Yunishigawa festival held in early June, featuring Biwa (Japanese lute) performances, dances and theatrical plays. The highlight of the festival is the “Emaki Gyoretsu Procession”, where over 200 people dressed as heroic Samurais or elegant princesses parade through the town. Visitors can also apply to join the march.

Pete-Dye Golf Club is a masterpiece 18-hole course designed on the land of Nikko by the genius Pete Dye. It is named after the golf course architect Pete Dye. The course is flat but long and tough, and is one of the best championship courses in Tochigi Prefecture. The course will make you play seriously and let you find your true skill level. The course also features an authentic and classy clubhouse.

The Takase Kanko Yana is a weir on the fresh waters of the Ara River.Come try fresh sweetfish cuisine while looking at the clear waters of the nearby Nakagawa River. You can even try your hand at catching sweetfish with their Yana traps. Enjoy robata-yaki in the tatami rooms and food cooked directly in front of you. The restaurant is open from June to November each year in accordance with the sweetfish fishing season."
