Yokohama Chinatown

The Yokohama Chinatown is a Chinatown located in Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama. Along with Kobe Nankinmachi Chinatown and Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown, it is known as one of the three major Chinatowns. Its scale is overwhelming, making it the largest Chinatown in Japan and East Asia with more than 600 stores lined up in an area of about 500m squared. There are alleys with place names such as Shanghai Road, Zhongshan Road, and Fujian Road intersect, as well as many signs with Chinese characters. Cantonese, Beijing, Shanghai, and Sichuan cuisine, steamed buns, gyoza dumplings, dim sum, and many other delicious Chinese dishes fill the streets. The many gate structures, the Guantei Temple, the Mazu Temple, the glamorous shops, and the liveliness of Chinese spoken in the alleys will invigorate you.In Yokohama's downtown heart, bustling Chinatown is home to over 500 shops and restaurants. Buy some souvenirs, grab a steamed bun from a food stand, or feast on a ten-course banquet, then visit one of the two colourful temples. Kibune Festival

Kibune Festival

Kibune Shrine’s Kibune Festival, set in Manazuru, is considered one of Japan’s three major ship festivals and occurs annually in late July. It is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.During this two-day event, numerous boats—including one carrying a mikoshi (portable shrine)—are adorned with vibrant flower decorations and towed by oar-operated boats called Kaidenma in Manazuru Port. Both the daytime and illuminated nighttime visuals, which are accompanied by traditional songs and instruments, are mesmerizing. Manazuru celebrates this festival for prosperity in fishing and good health.The festival also features traditional Kashima dancing and mikoshi processions. It is a unique cultural experience you won’t want to miss!

Nasu Stained Glass Museum

Nasu Stained Glass Museum

Made in the motif of the UK's Cotswolds aristocracy manor house, this small museum shaped like a castle was painstakingly constructed using only the finest materials.  The exhibits include antique stained glass from the 1800s. Particularly popular are, the stained glass produced by the glass studio artist Tiffany, and the glass that is inspired by the Biblical wall decorations of St. Raphael Chapel. Inside the building antique pipe organ music is played live for your enjoyment during the stained glass viewing, every day. Additionally the St. Gabriel Chapel has a concert weekly (on weekends) with a variety of musical instruments, so weekend visits are recommended. This building also has a café where you can enjoy a meal and traditional British tea."

The Sojiji Temple is the head temple of the Soto school (of Zen Buddhism). Every summer, the Mitama Matsuri Bon Odori Festival is held. It is now established as a local summer tradition, and many participants enjoy dancing the Bon dance to the cheers of the energetic monks. Please come and join our Bon Odori Festival!Held over three consecutive days from July 18 to 20, this huge summer festival is a Tsurumi summer tradition. Featuring a Bon Odori dance with the temple priests, a fireworks display with 200 fireworks launched over the three days and many stalls lining the approach to the temple, this lively festival attracts crowds of people of all ages and genders.

Yokohama Zoological Gardens "ZOORASIA" is a zoo themed around “coexistence and harmony of life and nature.” It is divided into 8 zones according to the world's climatic regions, with 570 animals of around 100 species (as of the end of March 2025), including rare animals like okapi and proboscis monkeys. Feel like you've taken a trip around the world at this zoo, and enjoy the special menu at the dining area.The zoo will extend its opening hours on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays in August, and will hold a special summer evening event where the zoo will open to the public at night, an experience otherwise unavailable to the public. Kannonzaki Prefectural Lighthouse

Kannonzaki Prefectural Lighthouse

The Kannonsaki Lighthouse is Japan's first Western-style lighthouse, designed by the Frenchman, F.L. Verny. He was invited in 1977 from his home country as a foreign engineer and pioneer of Western culture in Japan. The lighthouse collapsed later in an earthquake and was rebuilt, with the current being the third version. Located in the scenic Kannonsaki Park, it features views of boats sailing in Tokyo Bay, as well as the Boso Peninsula on the opposite shore. The lighthouse has an exhibition and reference room, where valuable materials such as lighthouse lenses are displayed. Please contact Tokokai for any inquiries (see website).

Oyama-dera Temple

Oyama-dera Temple

Known affectionately as "Fudo-san in Oyama," this is one of the three major fudo in the Kanto region. It is also the first of the 36 fudo (immovable buddhas) in the Kanto region. The temple was founded in 755 by Priest Rouben, who was a separate head priest of Todaiji Temple in Nara. The main image of Fudo Myoo, an iron statue of Fudo Myoo, and Nidoko (two children) are designated as national important cultural properties. In November, the leaves in front of the gate change color and are illuminated, creating a different atmosphere than seen during the daytime.Observe the autumn leaves along the temple’s tree-lined steps or ride the cable car to the summit for spectacular aerial views. For a different perspective, visit the temple at night when the autumn colors and grounds are illuminated.
