This steam locomotive, called “Taiju”, has been operating since August 2017. “Taiju” is also known as the other name of the Tokugawa Shogun, who is enshrined at Nikko Toshogu Shrine. Tobu Railway, with its network from the Asakusa area in Tokyo to this Kinugawa Onsen area, was once called one of the biggest “kingdoms of steam locomotives”, as it used to operate as many as 85 steam locomotives mainly for forwarding freight. How about enjoying a ride on Taiju on the way to your sightseeing destination? All seats on the Taiju are reserved and can be purchased at Tobu Tourist Information Center Asakusa on the first floor of Asakusa Station, website,or Tobu Railway Line Stations. Shimoimaichi Station and Kinugawa Onsen Station are equipped with railway turntables where you can enjoy watching a dynamic steam locomotive in front of you!

The Taishi Food Inc. Nikko plant is located close to the Daiya River and produces tofu and soybean-processed foods made with clear spring water and selected ingredients. Visitors are free to come inside the factory, look around and learn about the healthy and nutritious soybeans via displays and videos. Other attractions offered at the factory include a tofu-making experience and sampling freshly made tofu and fried tofu. Built in 1987, Mikaeri Suspension Bridge stretches 100 metres across and 30 metres over Shiobara Gorge. The bridge is known as the starting point of the Shiobara Gorge walking trail and has a charm unique from the magnificent neighbouring Momijidani Suspension Bridge. Cross the Mikaeri Suspension Bridge and walk a further 10 metres to the observation deck for incredible views of Mikaeri Falls.
The Usuzumi Zakura of Neo, the Jindaizakura of Yamataka, and the Miharu Takizakura are known as Japan’s Three Great Cherry Trees. These, along with the Ishiwari Zakura of Morioka, the Kosonju tree, and others, are all gathered at Tenpyo-no-Oka Park. From late March, when the Usuzumi Zakura begins to bloom, until late April, when the double cherry blossoms reach their peak, visitors can enjoy breathtaking cherry blossoms blooming throughout the park for an entire month. The Tenpyo-no-Oka Park located in Shimotsuke City, is the one of the most popular cherry blossoms viewing spot in Tochigi. In fact, here was an important site for the “Shimotsuke Kokubunji Temple” since more than 1,300 years ago. This temple served as the favored place of worship of the Utsunomiya clan for generations. It is known as a place where worshippers can pray to Fudo for safety from fire and success in business. Tagesan Fudoson's wooden statue of a seated Fudo was crafted using the technique of yosegi, a type of traditional Japanese marquetry, and is believed to date back to the late Heian Period."
Jao Falls is a waterfall which runs into the Kinugawa River located alongside Prefectural Highway Route 23.The long, thin stream of water looks like a snake, hence the waterfall’s name (“ja” means serpent, and “o” is king). It's surrounded by forest, and the scenery is especially beautiful during spring with its young leaves and when the foliage turns colors in the fall."
