Meiji-No-Yakata is a restaurant remodeled from a villa built by an American merchant during the Meiji period (1868-1912). Japan at that time was just beginning to be introduced to Western culture. At the restaurant, you will see the fusion of Japanese and Western culture. The stone wall technique, used in construction of Japanese castles, was used to build the villa, and its interior was adorned with Western decor. Today, these features make the restaurant building very tasteful. Signature dishes are hamburger steak, omelet and rice (“omurice”), and hashed beef and rice (“hayashi rice”), which are all popular home-cooked dishes in Japan. The chef turns these dishes into masterpieces that you can experience only at Meiji-No-Yakata. Other strongly recommended dishes are multi-course meals featuring choice “Tochigi” steak using locally produced Tochigi Wagyu. Each year from around late September through until middle-October, cosmos flowers bloom in a space of 5 hectares at the Nabatame Cosmos Field in Mashiko Town. The cosmos here come in a variety of colors including orange, pink, purple, and white. And you can pick some flowers from the fields and take them home too.

Nakagawa Onsen is a mountain hot spring resort that is close to Lake Tanzawa, it has a long history. There is a legend that about 400 years ago, Takeda Shingen helped a soldier recover who was injured in a battle with Hojo Ujiyasu by bathing in this hot spring, therefore it is also called "Shingen's secret bath". It is a simple hot spring with the water quality high in PH, it is said to be effective for gastrointestinal diseases, neuralgia, rheumatism, hypertension, recovery of wounds, etc. It is also said to be good for your skin, it is widely known as a "beauty bath" that makes your skin smooth.

The "U.S.-Japan Friendship Cherry Blossom Festival" is an annual event where the U.S. army base in Zama, Japan, opens to the public. Take a stroll inside the normally inaccessible U.S. military base and admire over 300 cherry blossom trees. Many American foods, such as hamburgers, pizza, and hot dogs will be available at food stalls for you to enjoy the international flavors. There are also live bands and a DJ, as well as a kids zone, making it fun for everyone in the family!

It is said that the ume (plum) groves were first planted by the Hojo clan during the Warring States period to provide food for the troops (some theories exist). Among the three plum groves: Bessho, Hara and Nakagawara, around 35,000 plum trees are in full bloom during the correct season and are framed by Mt. Fuji and Hakone. The shumai dumplings from Kiyoken are known as a famous food of Yokohama. At the Yokohama factory, you are able to tour their shumai and o-bento lunchbox production lines. The tour takes approximately 90 minutes. On this tour, you can learn about the history of the popular Ekiben lunch boxes and learn the secret to producing the delicious shumai o-bento lunch boxes. Through the glass, you can witness the important manufacturing process. Why not enjoy something that can only be enjoyed at this particular place? There is also a mini-museum shop in the factory where you can eat freshly cooked shumai and buy souvenirs.

Tracing the spiritual site founded by Kobo Daishi — listen to the murmurs of flowing water in the quiet forest Jakko Falls is located in Nikko City’s Chugawa area. With a height of about 50 meters and a width of 6 meters, it cascades down in seven tiers. The surrounding forest is lush, and the mountain trail offers a deeply serene atmosphere, earning its reputation as a hidden scenic spot known only to locals. The site was once home to the ancient Jakko-ji Temple, said to have been founded by Kobo Daishi in 820 AD. During the Meiji era, due to the government’s separation of Buddhism and Shintoism, the temple was converted into Jakko Shrine, and religious legends are still passed down today. Along the trail to the waterfall lies the massive Ikeishi Stone, shrouded in dense forest, adding a mystical aura to the site. From Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park, it takes about a 20-minute walk to reach the falls, making it a perfect spot for hiking and enjoying seasonal scenery, especially during spring and autumn.

Held every summer at Tonoike Brewery in Mashiko, the popular “Japanese Sake Garden” event offers unlimited tastings of the brewery’s signature sake, Sanran. The experience also includes a special bento box filled with sake-friendly appetizers. A must-visit for sake lovers!  

The former Kibata elementary school is now open to the public as a traditional village offering a wide range of activities including farming experience， pottery classes and noodle， tofu and Konjac making workshops. The venue has a café as well as camping and barbeque areas.

This large flower park in the Nasu highlands consists of picturesque fields of colourful flowers. Lovely views of flowers include roses, plumed cockscombs and cosmoses during all seasons except winter. The scenery is exceptionally beautiful under the clear sky with the Nasu Mountains in the background.

The Kamimizo Summer Festival has been held in Sagamihara since the end of the Edo period (1603-1868). The festival is said to be dedicated to Emperor Ushira, who prays for a good harvest and safety of the family, and is said to have been inspired by the Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto. On Sunday evenings, the local portable shrines (Mikoshi) and floats (Dashi) gather from each town and start a grand procession. Once the evening sun goes down, the lanterns of the portable shrines are lit, creating a fantastic spectacle that is not to be missed.
