En’no-ji Temple

En’no-ji Temple

This statue of King Enma was carved in 1250 and was initially situated on a mountain in front of the Hase Kannon. After the fated downfall of the Kamakura Shogunate, Ashikaga Takauji moved it to the left, facing the sea at the Ichino-torii gate, to mourn the departed souls of Yuhigahama, the site of the decisive battle. The temple was again damaged by a major earthquake during the Genroku era (1688-1704), and was moved to its present location. The Ten Kings of Ennoji Temple, centering on King Yama, depict the judgment of those who were condemned to hell for their sins during their lifetime. The temple is still widely worshipped as a Jizo temple.

Yokohama Chinatown

Yokohama Chinatown

The Yokohama Chinatown is a Chinatown located in Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama. Along with Kobe Nankinmachi Chinatown and Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown, it is known as one of the three major Chinatowns. Its scale is overwhelming, making it the largest Chinatown in Japan and East Asia with more than 600 stores lined up in an area of about 500m squared. There are alleys with place names such as Shanghai Road, Zhongshan Road, and Fujian Road intersect, as well as many signs with Chinese characters. Cantonese, Beijing, Shanghai, and Sichuan cuisine, steamed buns, gyoza dumplings, dim sum, and many other delicious Chinese dishes fill the streets. The many gate structures, the Guantei Temple, the Mazu Temple, the glamorous shops, and the liveliness of Chinese spoken in the alleys will invigorate you.In Yokohama's downtown heart, bustling Chinatown is home to over 500 shops and restaurants. Buy some souvenirs, grab a steamed bun from a food stand, or feast on a ten-course banquet, then visit one of the two colourful temples. SUP at Hayama Ocean Sports

SUP at Hayama Ocean Sports

Located at Shinnase Beach in Hayama, Kanagawa, Hayama Ocean Sports offers year-round standup paddleboarding (SUP) lessons. But these aren’t just any ordinary SUP lessons. While paddling, students get to enjoy a picturesque view of Mount Fuji. The nearby Najima Island, a small island with a torii gate, can also be seen. The 2-hour classes are kept to a small number and are led by instructors with over 10 years of SUP-teaching experience. Instructors closely guide participants through the basics for about an hour and a half, before students are given free time to paddle on their own. Included in the package are required SUP equipment, a wet suit, as well as a life vest. Participants are also welcome to use the shower facilities inside the clubhouse after the session. If you’re looking to try your hand at a new water sport, try out a SUP lesson with Hayama Ocean Sports. Kainan Shrine

Kainan Shrine

Built in the March of the 2nd of the Jouou Era (1653), Kainan Shrine was awarded Shouichii (the highest rank given to a shrine) by the Yoshida Family of the Yoshida Shintō religion. In the 4th of the Kyouhou Era (1719), the shrine became the Souchinju (the protecting shrine) of the Miura Peninsula. In the 6th year of the Meiji Era it was designated a Gosha (a village shrine) and in the 40th year it was designated a Shinsenheihakuryokyoshin-sha (a type of village shrine that was able to receive fees/offering for the gods).

Okurayama Memorial Hall

Okurayama Memorial Hall

This hall was built in 1932 as the main building of Okura Mental and Cultural Laboratory, by a business-man Okura Kunihiko, who bacame the dean of Toyo University. The hall was donated to Yokohama City in 1981, and after a major renovation to preserve the building, the hall was transformed into Okurayama Memorial Hall in 1984.The hall was designated as a tangible cultural property of Yokohama City in 1991, as the hall occupies an important place in the modern architechtural market. You cannot view the hall and the meeting room as the building is usually used as a local facility, but you can see the common space such as the entrance. The building is famous for being the site of filming, and over 30 films are shot in a year.

Mitsuzawa Park

Opened to the public in 1949, this sports park has been the site for national sporting events and the Tokyo Olympics. Along with Nippatsu Mitsuzawa Stadium, where J.League and Rugby Top League matches are held, and the JAAF (Japan Association of Athletics Federations) certified class 2 track stadium, this park has a wide variety of sports facilities including tennis court, horse riding area, Hiranuma Memorial Gymnasium, Kanagawa prefecture sports center.

Kayama Plantation, Strawberry Picking

Kayama Plantation, Strawberry Picking

This plantation offers you the opportunity to taste strawberries grown in organic soil. The soil is rich in nutrients, giving the strawberries a rich sweetness with a refreshing acidity. “Tochiotome” and “Benihoppe (Red Cheek)” strawberries are available to pick between early January and early June. The homemade Strawberry Daifuku (2 for 600 yen, 3 for 900 yen) are made from their strawberries and are extremely popular, so pre-orders are a must. They also sell jam (800 yen). *Make sure to also give the adjacent Kayama Farm Cafe a try!
