Tenpyo-no-Oka Park

The vast grounds of Tenpyo-no-Oka Park consist of pristine forest containing a number of historic sites. A great number of visitors come to the Tempyo flower festival held in mid to late April when the 450 double-flowered cherry trees bloom. Enjoy strolling through the woods and travel back in time with a visit to one or more of the various museums in the park. The “Botchan Bus” departs from in front of the folklore museum for a 15-minute circumnavigation of the park – popular for families and perfect for sightseeing. A popular sight is the stone-walled keyhole-shaped ancient tomb of Kunimiyama. Clap your hands under the stairs in the ring-shaped area of the tomb, and hear the echoing sounds of a roaring dragon reverberate back from the large stone above. On the first Sunday of November the Tenpyo Imoni Festival is held here serving home-style Imoni soup to 3,000 guests. The soup is made with local produce including dried gourd strips, taro roots and leeks in a huge pot measuring 2.5 metres across. ☆

Nagamine Park

Nagamine Park

One of Japan's top 100 urban parks, the famous azalea viewing place in Kanto City, North Kanto City, about 5,000 azaleas in full bloom here, and every year in May will be held “azalea festival”, swarming with many people.   From early April to mid-May (the peak season for cherry blossoms and azaleas), the park is illuminated at night, and the dreamlike flower scene makes people linger.   There are also lawn parks and amusement facilities in the park, which are suitable for family picnics. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Takahara and Mt. Nikko from the observatory in the park.

Kurobane Furusato Bussan Center Restaurant

A traditional Japanese house built over 170 years ago has been relocated to the Kurobane Furusato Bussan Center. This building with a thatched roof houses Kurashi no Yakata and a restaurant. At the restaurant, ‘Oroshi Soba ― Yamizo Asagiri hand-picked soba ―’ is one of the popular menu items made with locally produced buckwheat flour. Adjacent to the restaurant is the Bussan Center. There, you can buy delicious vegetables produced by local farmers and steamed buns made with love. They also sell additive-free homemade miso called Ginjo Ichinen Miso. It is popular because miso soup made with this miso in the morning stays tasty until night.

Kanuma City Kaboku Center

This large gardening shop complex is located on 400,000 meters of hilly land known by locals as "Moroyama." Its shop offers flowering plants, as well as garden trees, and landscaping and gardening supplies, with a particular focus on satsuki azalea. Some of its many facilities include a plum grove, the Wild Bird Forest, a tourist strawberry farm, and a hilltop barbequing space. It is a great place to enjoy spending a day surrounded by flowers and trees."

Yamaage Center

This museum features permanent exhibits about the Yamaage Matsuri of Karasuyama, UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and a National Important Intangible Cultural Heritage. At this facility, a human-like robot named Kansuke Jiisan (Grandpa Kansuke) provides a detailed explanation of the Yamaage Festival. Visitors can get a close look at the large stalls actually used for the festival as well as a one-fifth-scale replica of the actual stage. Local specialty products are sold at the convenient tourist product corner offering the perfect souvenirs."

Nasu World Monkey Park is a monkey theme park with over 60 different types of rare monkeys from around the world. The plaza where guests can hold and take photos with the cute and rare monkeys is extremely popular. In addition to a petting area, there’s a “monkey theater” with variety shows featuring monkeys. And an “elephant forest” where visitors can ride elephants, along with many other experiences. You’ll also find restaurants that provide various Asian cuisine and shops that sell monkey-themed goods."

Tentaka Shuzo established itself in Otawara City, a nature-rich city suitable for sake brewing in Tochigi Prefecture. With a history of over 100 years, the brewery produces organic sake under the motto of “delicious, safe, and enjoyable” and is hosting brewery tours that include tasting. There are two brewery tour courses. One is the Standard Course that takes about 30 minutes, and the other one is the Special Course that requires about 60 minutes. In the Special Course, you can visit many rooms involved in sake production including the rice mill, rice steaming room, yeast growing room, sake brewing room, sake pressing room, and sake filtering room. Why don’t you join the tour and learn about Japanese sake production using the carefully selected ingredients, production method, equipment, and tools? ※Due to production preparation, there are no tours offered between the middle of December and the end of February.

Moka Momen is a traditional fabric made in Moka City, which is so smooth to the skin that it resembles silk. It reached the height of its popularity during the late Edo period, but the work to create it, from cultivating cotton to spinning, dyeing, and weaving fabric, has been inherited by the Moka Momen Kaikan where even today it is all performed by hand just as it was long ago. In addition to fabric for kimonos, items perfect for everyday use are also produced.

This is a mini theme park with a ""Showa Retro"" theme. Inside, you'll find thousands of retro items densely displayed, including classic enamel signs, old cigarette vending machines, and everyday household goods from the Showa era. Farm Stay Iri (Hachinosu) is a quiet, two-story Western style accommodation built 20 years ago in a farm village with an extensive view of the countryside. The owner has renovated a 55-year-old storage shed into a fermentation research laboratory “Fer-Lab.” Only one reservation is accepted at a time and guests will not see any other guests during their stay. Guests and the owner cook meals together using home-grown rice and seasonal vegetables with no commercial spices. If requested, vegan meals and gluten-free meals can be made. You can also experience vegetable harvesting. Mt. Ohira

At Mt. Ohira in Tochigi City, you can enjoy seasonal scenery such as a tunnel of cherry blossoms in spring, hydrangea slopes in early summer, and autumn leaves in autumn. Located in the center of Tochigi city, it is a prefectural natural park that was designated in March 1955. From Kenshin-daira near the summit, you can get a panoramic view of the Kanto Plain, and the majestic view of the peaks below floating in mist has earned it the nickname Matsushima on land. From the observation deck you can also see Mt. Tsukuba, and on clear, sunny days you can even see the skyscrapers of Tokyo's subcenter and Mt. Fuji in the distance.

This day spa is located in Kawaji Onsen District in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture. Its simple weakly alkaline hot springs have earned it the nickname Bihada no Yu for supposedly giving people beautiful skin. It is also said to help with conditions such as nerve and joint pain. The facility features indoor baths and mixed gender open-air baths. The spa, which offers great views of the scenery of the Ojika River, is patronized mostly by locals but also by many tourists."
