Grand Mall Park

Grand Mall Park

As a park located on the waterfront, we developed a design based on the theme of "the sea" to create a facility that enhances the appeal of the Minato Mirai 21 district. Art furniture (benches) with a nautical motif were installed under a row of zelkova trees, where the sun shines through the trees. At night, a luminous sea pavement in front of the art square creates a new nightscape of Minato Mirai with illusory light reminiscent of luminous insects drifting among the waves of the sea.

Shonan Hiratsuka Tanabata Festival

Shonan Hiratsuka Tanabata Festival

The Shonan Hiratsuka Tanabata Festival was started as a postwar commercial revitalization initiative, and is characterized by the vibrance of its Tanabata decorations, said to be the most lavish in Japan, made possible by the city's commercial power. Approximately 300 ornaments fill the streets of the city center, centered in the main venue, Shonan Star Mall, with gorgeous decorations, some reaching over 5 meters in height! In the evening, the decorations are lit up, creating an even more beautiful and impressive sight. During the festival, various events are held, including a Tanabata decoration competition and a parade. The festival has developed into one of Japan's most representative summer traditions, with the Shonan Hiratsuka Orihime, chosen through a contest, participating in various events, such as parades and visits to the city, further livening up the Tanabata festival.Held every July, Tanabata is a vibrant festival celebrating the one annual meeting of two celestial lovers. The bright colours of the decorations around the city and the night-time illuminations are rivaled by the beautiful kimonos worn by visitors. The Tanabata Festival, which announces the arrival of summer in Shonan, is one of the largest in Japan, along with the Sendai City Tanabata Festival in Miyagi Prefecture. About 500 gorgeous decorations are presented in the center of Hiratsuka, and at night, they are lit up to create a magical atmosphere. A parade and more than 400 stalls—selling a wide variety of things, such as Shonan gourmet foods—make the festival even more exciting.

Enoshima

Enoshima

Enoshima is an island with a circumference of around 4 km and you can enjoy the popular sightseeing spots throughout a year, such as Enoshima Shrine, Enoshima Samuel Cocking Garden, Enoshima Sea Candle, Dragon Bell, Chigogafuchi Marine Plateau, and Enoshima Iwaya Cave. The Enoshima Yacht Harbor was the sailing competition venue for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020. The area is abundant with seafood such as shirasu, Ise Shrimp, sashimi, sazae and clams, all of which are very popular local cuisines to the tourists. When the tide is low, people flock to Chigogafuchi Abyss to take in the panoramic views of the sea and the magnificent skyline. The Chigogafuchi Rest House is a two-story building offering visitors a place to sit down and have a bite to eat before or after exploring the Iwaya Caves.Connected to the Chigogafuchi Abyss is the Sunset Reef. As the name suggests, it offers a stunning view of the sun setting into the sea. During the seasons of low tide, various marine life can be seen swimming amongst the reef, making it a popular fishing spot. The First Cavern is 152 metres long, and can be accessed by taking the left-side path where the cave splits at the entrance. When you walk further into the cavern, the cave splits again into two. Because of the extremely cold winds that sometime blow from the left-side path, it is rumored that the cave is somehow connected to Mt. Fuji, but this cannot be confirmed as it is closed to the public. On scenic Enoshima Island you can see historical temples, stroll around a botanical garden, take in the view from the lighthouse, or cool off in a cave created by the sea. In summer, the neighbouring beaches are lined with fun temporary bars.
